Can anyone list the essential/important points to remember when importing CAD
files into MapInfo?
So far, from the MapInfo Help, I see that it's best to split up features that
have the same attributes and import them one at a time into seperate layers in
MapInfo. I take it, it's best to go
Or just update with: Str$(obj)
This will give you a text describing the object.

Hi,
In most of the work we do, we already have the base maps, so I never
bother to draw polygons or any other objects. But last week I was trying
to use MIP in order to draw architectural plans (the goal was to compute
an approximation of the areas of different rooms). I encountered problems
create a file and name it verion.txt for example
in the file
put the size of your .mb file
and version number
when the application runs
open this file and read this two info
compare with .mb file size ( if the file exists , if not do not change
anything)
if not same size
increment the
Thanks for your fast answer. This is what I suspected too. My question is
how can I make sure that the projection is set to Non Earth ? it looks
like a bug.. because here is what I do :
1) Launch MIP and set the preference for new tables and new session to
Non Earth projection and centimeters
hi
Check out www.maptech.com - however i have only seen their ArcGIS extension
to read these files, not sure about their support for MI.
cheers

How to Pack an MS Access table with relations from MapInfo without loosing the
relations in Access?
I have a lot of polyline objects in a MapInfo table linked to an MS Access
database. In MS Access the table contains relations to other tables.
When I want to pack the table to get rid of empty
Dear All,
I am sure this is a standard practice but as newby and having used
arcview, I am un sure on how to achieve this:
I have 1 table (T1) with 500 points in and another with thousands of
polygons (T2) of varying sizes. I want to create another table which
lists all of the polygons of
Hi John,
You could achieve it by creating a buffer on T2 and ask for objects from T1
within.
SQL: Select * from T2, T1 where t2.obj within T1.obj into FoundT2Objects
noselect
Or you could make a query on the tables you have already created using the
intersects keyword
SQL: Select * from T2,

Hi MI Gurus,
I guess this should be an easy one.
I have 3 columns: id, poly_area and total_poly
I want to calculate the sum of all the poly_area and put in the
total_poly for each of my 16 records.
I kinda did it with sql but instead of updating the total_poly column I
created a new table

This may be a stupid question but, sometimes I have to deal with stupid
people. Please read on.
I have terrain raster images that are projected in NAD83. The rest of
our vector data is projected in (grid) lat/long, lat/long. I was
wondering, can I change the projection datum to
Hi all,
I've done this before and can't figure out why it isn't working right
now. I'm creating a circular buffer around a point to calculate
population density within a 1km radius. Some of these buffers fall on
water and so I want to subtract the area that covers water from the
original buffer
Anyone know where these can be found in either .shp or .tab?
Thanks in advance, and Happy Friday!

Hi,
I'm not an AutoCAD user...anybody have advice for resources or procedures to
follow when exporting to dxf format for import into MapInfo.
I'm not an AutoCAD user so I thought I would ask for some direction in the
AutoCAD environment.
Thanks!
