MI-L 3D application

Does anyone know a program to do 3D, cheaper than Vertical Mapper. I'm still a student and I don't think I can affort it... (I was told it's something like $1600 ($CAN?)). I can't have a certain job if I can't do 3D at home, but without this job, I can't buy VM so... Thanks Francois T.-Goulet
