Actually you do not have to close all other grids down you just have to
uncheck the i? in the Grid Manager for those grids that you do not want to
return values for.

I have not imported a grid from Spatial Analyst for a while and I think the
proper export format is ASCII text format. I am assuming it is the same
export module that is in 3D Analyst. Bottom line, it can be done.

My guess is the tool is having trouble with the projection of the point
file. I bet it is in a long / lat projection system. Try UTM.
