Role: GIS/Demographic Specialist Company: Weingarten Realty Investors ? a developer of community shopping centers in the southern US. Location: Houston, TX (USA) Department: Market Research Role Overview: Provide accurate and timely geographic research support for projects as assigned. The primary tools to be used are an Anysite and MapInfo GIS mapping system, MS Office products, various demographic and syndicated databases, as well as various internal databases. Heavy involvement with GIS mapping, report and map templates, file maintenance, and information updates. Role Responsibilities: Requires the ability to perform detailed geographic assignments with limited guidance and instruction. These assignments include but are not limited to management and upkeep of the master database files within the department. This involves integration of information from various sources into the Company's Geographic Information System. This position will be responsible for producing maps showing spatial relationships to be used by Leasing, New Development, and other departments within the Weingarten Realty organization. Requires the ability to perform site location research utilizing geographic tools and techniques. This position requires detail orientation and will be supported with limited guidance and instruction. This person will be responsible for producing analytical reports and real estate information, utilizing maps and data bases, to be used by Leasing, New Development, and other departments within the Weingarten Realty organization. Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree in Geography is desired along with 2-3 years of direct GIS experience. Emphasis in site location, economic or marketing geography a plus. Must be proficient with a Geographic Information System (MapInfo preferred); knowledge of scripting or programming a plus. Must be proficient in Windows 95, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Must have excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work with several projects simultaneously, handle shifting priorities, be service oriented, be a team player, and possess a positive attitude.
