Merci/Thank You all for your quick response.

The solution I ended up using is the one proposed by Jacques Paris and the
great tool you can download on his website: Fixshade.
(http://www.paris-pc-gis.com/mlc/mlc_main_en.htm) It solved my problem in
the most straightforward way.

Here are the suggestions:

The thematic layer is always stored in the workspace only. it is not a real
layer. it is created on the fly. One way that you could work with this is
to do a File > Save Copy As and save the workspace as a Windows MetaFile
(WMF). I am not sure, but I think you can load WMF files into Freehand. I
hope this helps.

A thematic layer is just that, thematic. It contains only information
about how to shade, shape, color, outline, etc. the layer it is a theme
of. It contains none of the original table's data. To get what you are
looking for, you would have to physically modify the objects in your
original table changing the shape, color, fill styles, etc. to what you
want. Then you could export the table to a mif.

We've had this problem before and our solution so far has been to recreate
the thematic directly in MAPublisher.
Hope this helps!

Convert your thematic layer into a permanently colored map that you can then
export as a mid/mif. Fixshade is a utility that will do that for you. See in
our site uneder the MLC project, MLC applications
