I have used the layout window before but, I couldn't cut and paste from the layout window to another application. All I can do is print from the layout right? or did I miss something?

But once they are selected, you will notice that the editing function are hihlighted. Meaning you can change the parameters of your windows like any polygons. Even making it transparent by choosing not background fill patern.
