Anyhow, I found myself doing a fair amount of editing in MapInfo. In so
doing, I used shortcuts like Ctrl+Z for 'Undo' quite often. I thought
it would be cool to be able to create more shortcuts for other actions

I don't know anything about non-modal Layer Control windows or what the
optimal pointing device is. But I am a user that likes his keyboard
shortcuts. Would keyboard shortcuts help with the type of mapping that
you're doing? Disregard if that isn't something you're looking for.
I have a graphic pen tablet (by Wacom) which I love. Permits me to make
minor changes like I couldn't with a mouse... and I tried the regular mouse
and the thumb mouse. I also have a lot more control. I don't use a mouse
anymore at all.
