Thanks Karthik for opening a long overdue discussion on the release cadence
and EOL.
As for the EOL, I think we need to weigh between the benefit for the users
and the maintenance cost for the community. I'd also love to find out what
other (major) open source projects do in terms of the EOL.

Same as before, build and test runs against Slider and spark, using the mvn
staged repositories.
I also tried a windows native build this time, but got rejected saying ZLIB
wasn't found. I don't think this is a regression, as I tried to rebuild Hadoop
2.7.2, and got the same error.
