Awesome, I will check those!

Assuming that you mean the source format of your data (and not the output format for the WMS service), for raster sources I still rely on the speed of a properly indexed GeoTIFF.  (yes the cool kids may use other formats ha)

Yes, that was what I was wondering about, thanks!

For years now, I have been half-heartedly tinkering with the modernization of my weather website saakeskus.fi. At the moment (since 2008), I'm using GrADs to create PNG images which are available through a website. I have been thinking of modernizing it by using mapserver as a backend and leaflet as a frontend while creating the layer source/input files with GDAL. But it's a slow process... I have to learn mapserver and GDAL plus Python to put it all together. It's a hobby project which doesn't generate any income, so it tends to always end up lowest on my todo list.

In terms of output formats, I recently had some back-and-forth with an admin of an Esri WMS service, about their use of output formats in their WMS service - it seems the format discussion is never-ending, and as important today in year 2024 ha.

I haven't even thought about those :D. It's probably gonna be PNG or JPEG, whatever works best in the tests

Hope your summer is going well,

Thanks! Same to you!
-Stefan
