The Government of Ontario (Canada) has convened a Committee to provide research-based options and recommendations regarding how best to ensure the most humane treatment of captive cetaceans.
The Committee is seeking advice from the scientific community to highlight areas of scientific information on potential benefits or detrimental effects of keeping cetaceans in captivity in non-research institutions. This includes (but is not limited to) published, peer-reviewed studies of animal health, both physical and behavioural, as well as published studies on the potential educational benefits of display animals. To that end, individuals or organizations may provide a 2-page [maximum] submission to the Committee. Please note that this is not an invitation to provide opinions, but to ensure the Committee has taken into consideration and has access to all of the relevant science-based evidence. Those individuals making submissions my be subsequently contacted for further information or input. Also, please be aware that all submissions may potentially be included in the Committee’s final report to the Government of Ontario.
