CAFE 1ST ANNIVERSARY

On April 16th and 17th of last year a small but determined group of Cuban American and American citizens went to Washington D.C. to lobby for a change in U.S. policy towards Cuba and for more engagement between both estranged nations in the hopes of ending the embargo and eventually normalizing relations. Shortly afterwards, this group decided to organize and begin a concerted effort to galvanize the majority of Cuban Americans who favor a more rational policy towards Cuba and educate the American public in general about the potential rewards of a mutually beneficial relation based on peace, respect and understanding.

Since that first trip to our nation's capital CAFE, Cuban Americans for Engagement, has grown in numbers and stature and the Executive Committee would like to thank all of you who have been a part of this monumental task of reshaping a policy that has done nothing but cause animosity, violence, and mistrust between the U.S. and Cuba. This past February we returned to Washington D.C. to continue to lobby for change and the number of attendees tripled. Also, our mailing list and individuals following us on our Facebook page are steadily increasing.

CAFE wishes to extend our warmest thanks to those invaluable members, organizations, and friends who have raised their voices in order to rectify the historical rift between both nations and the Cubans on the island with the Cuban diaspora. Your input and efforts to bring attention to many issues regarding U.S.-Cuba relations are greatly appreciated and we look forward to addressing your concerns in a public forum for many years to come.

We hope that you will encourage friends, family, and even foes to read our articles, sign our petitions, and openly discuss the concerns of the Cuban American community in regards to pursuing a different course between the United States and Cuba.
