Here's another one from Fremont's campaign in 1856

The same message. The Republicans are backed by people who want to
redistribute the wealth, abolish marriage, acknowledge the equality of women
and people of color.... This misrepresents the early Republicans as a
party, but those who advocated those changes found their place in the ranks
of the party and did quite well in the short period of time the Republicans
functioned as a force for change...

The Republican Party was detonated by a series of mass meetings at Ripon,
Wisconsin, about half of the participants in which were women. These were
all mostly veterans of the old Wisconsin Phalanx, a Fourierist community
that essentially started the town a few years earlier. The chair of those
first meetings was Alvan Bovay, the national secretary of the worker-based
land reform movement in the U.S. (see the Communist Manifesto for Marx and
Engels on that tendency).

Our movement--such as it then was--virtually destroyed itself in the
struggle to preserve the Union and abolish slavery. They were our people
that started it and played an important role within in before it became
sidetracked into business development.

May the Sesquicentennial of the Second American Revolution see a mass
revisiting of all the many questions from those days left unsettled.
