This month marks the centenary of the Labour Party in NZ. Founded in 1916, it formed governments 1935-49; 1957-60; 1972-75; 1984-1990; 1999-2008 (we have three-year terms here, for both national government and local government). Although a chunk of early leaders of the LP had a background in militant trade unionism, the party soon settled down to have no higher aim that the administration of capitalism. The early LP also did quite a line in anti-Chinese racism, something which has stuck with it and it is prominent even today. We've gotten dozens of articles about this odious party of capitalist managers up on Redline, but a cluster of the main ones are collected here: https://rdln.wordpress.com/2016/07/28/redline-on-the-labour-party/ Phil _________________________________________________________ Full posting guidelines at: http://www.marxmail.org/sub.htm Set your options at: http://lists.csbs.utah.edu/options/marxism/archive%40mail-archive.com
