Veteran workplace union activist and Marxist Don Franks addressed a meeting organised by the Workers Educational Association in Christchurch (New Zealand) this month two years ago on the way forward for workers and union activists. Don was a militant union delegate in one of the big car plants in Wellington in the 1970s. After it closed down in the 1980s he became a cleaner for the rest of his working life, as well as being active in the cleaners' union.
