I am not a philosopher, but would like to comment the following remarks:

^^^^^^^^

But Hitler never read or (I believe) refers to N, most
of the Nazis were not smart or literary enough to
bother. His appeal among the German upper classes was
to conservative aristocrats who despised Hitler as a
low class thug and a corporal of no background, and
served the Reich out of misplaced loyalty to their
oaths -- some of them, many actually, joined the July
conspiracy and died, mostly horribly, for resisting,
if too little too late. Nor did N's mass base respond
to N particularly, much more to poverty, inflation,
and unemployment, as a Marxist would expect.

I should not have to say this.

One does not have to have read someone in order to have been influenced
by that person.

The rest of the paragraph refers to post-war propaganda freeing the
ruling classes of all responsibility towards fascism.

Incorrect, in my opinon based on others', is the remark about the July
plotters being "heros", that the High Command did not take part because
of their oath and that it was a tragedy that the plot failed:

It would have been a tragedy if it had succeeded - which was why High
Command refused to go along with the plot - the Nazis should be in
charge when defeat came - not others. If Hitler were assassinated then
defeat would have been blamed on the plotters. Hitler the martyred hero
- betrayed when he could have rescued the fatherland etc. etc.

The german High Command repeated the same tactic that they used in 1917
when they saw that defeat was inevitable - it must not be in charge when
defeat comes. The military installed a civilian government and started
the rumour of the "stab in the back" after the defeat. Hence Hitler and
the Nazis had to be in charge when defeat came - and not "honourable"
officers and gentlemen!

Those who carried out the plot were opportunists and hardly shining lights..

That Nazis were ignorant thugs does not bear examination at all. You will find NO SHORTAGE of PhD's in the NAZI party!

Sorry - other than my initial remark, which I believe is relevant - the
rest had nothing to do with Nietsche - nor Marxism-Thaxis.
