Is it possible to connect to a different port than 22?

I noticed that if .netrc is on FAT32 mc shows the following and
always ask for the password:
Error
~/.netrc file has not correct mode.
Remove password or correct mode.
It works fine with NTFS (where I can chmod 600).
C: is NTFS
G: is FAT32 (a backup partition containing amonth others
$HOME).
