I use mc so much, that it got annoying when I had to switch to vi or
joe, to edit big files. I don't know what the exact limit was, but I am
using the following method to increase the limit to close to 100 meg.

change the key bindings of mc (version 4.6.0). What I want is to be
able to use tab completion in the command line with tab, as my fingers

It would be nice to compile against static glib, but it needs to be done
manually. For example, move shared glib library temporarily to some other
place. Another approach is to redefine GLIB_LIBS, e.g.
make GLIB_LIBS=/usr/local/lib/libglib.a
