You must use GNU make.
How can I know I am using GNU make? Any method of detection?
Run:
make -version
or
gmake -version
(sometimes GNU make is hiding under this name)
It must say something like this:
GNU Make version 3.79.1, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
