On my system (which does not have ispell or aspell installed) invoking spellcheck in the built-in editor without marking a block first leaves mc in such a state that output to stderr in the subshell is lost in programs started through the bindings (~/.mc/bindings or /usr/share/mc/mc.ext).
The visible symptoms are the same as recorded in the Never-Ending Story series of posts - loss of text output from ogg123 and mpg321 when invoked implicitly, no loss when invoked explicitly (typing "mpg321 %f" on the command line).
