in charsets.c is not compatible with utf-8 and needs to be completely rewritten. For example, the function convert_to_display(char *str) can't be used for converting to utf-8 where the string actually grows. With the current utf-8 patches charsets can't be used in utf-8 locales. -- Vladimir
