(The patch by Pavel Tsekov did not fix the issue I was seeing, but then
I didn't yet report what it was exactly.)
How to reproduce:
Edit a file
Choose options-general menu
Disable colorer
Choose options-syntax highlighting
boom
(Backtrace is for mccolorer with Pavel's patch applied.)
