Cross platform availability is a key challenge and will definitely be a
must-have with other platforms growing (such as Android).

You might also want to look at Phone Gap, which is an open source platform
that allows you to develop once for multiple systems using HTML and
javascript that then integrates with device-specific installations.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History has a cross-platform
(Apple & Android) app called MEanderthal. I think the Canadian Museum of
Civilization's app is Apple & Blackberry, coming out soon on Android too.

I see some iPhone apps being developed by museums, including mine. Don't
recall seeing any announcements of cross-platform apps by museums. With the
growth of Android phones I am wondering if anybody has done or plans to do
cross-platform apps. And if not, why not.
