I'm currently looking into the Sony DHC-ZX50MD but was wondering if you could recommend anything else. Some important features are: 1. Reliability I was also looking into the Kenwood XD-981MD but I read some bad things about it. 2. Features Digital recording level control as well as the other standard MiniDisc features. Would also like to have CD, AM/FM Tuner, and Cassette Deck. Digital input and output are also nice. 3. Sound Would like it to sound really well at reasonable levels and be able to handle the occasional loud party. 4. American I would prefer to buy an American release instead of a Japanese import through a specialty shop. This isn't that necessary though.
