The Sharp MD-R3 has the following connectors: Coax input, Optical input, Optical output, microphone input, line input and output, and headphone jack. The microphone input has its own analog level control. Check the PDF user's manual for more information.

I use a Sony MZ-R900 with a stereo condenser mic, with very good (and stereo) results for recording my music practice. This may not meet the original writer's criteria as it is a "walkman" style recorder. For me that is an advantage, having it so portable. Cheers, Anna -- Anna Langley
