There have been some warnings about plugging line cables into a mic power plug on some MDs. Here is my problem. I measured the dc resistance of a Sony 957 mic that I use with success on an Aiwa AM-F70. There is 100 ohms at the plug for each channel. The EC mics that I built from RS elements have a dc resistance of 1K ohms. I acquired a Denon (Sharp) MD that has mic power and I am reluctant to use the Sony mic for fear of damage to the input circuitry. I thought that the internal mic power circuitry was nothing more than a low voltage source through a 1k or so isolation resistor, in other words, nothing but a bias voltage for the condenser elements. In this case it would seem that there should be no problem with almost any mic. Or are the warnings really about applying line level signals to the mic inputs and blowing the input circuitry as a result of the higher levels? Inquiring minds want to know.
