From what I've heard/read, it's better to use a NiMH charger.

Sure!
If you want them to rupture and explode.
Never charge anything in a charger not made for it.

No. Don't ask me the technical reasons, I'll leave that for Jim Coon or
Ratman etc. All I know is that that I have tried and it does not charge
them properly.
