Regarding mono recording on the 702:

This statement is incorrect. I regularily record in mono on my 702, both
from digital and analog inputs. I have not had one problem in playing a
702 mono recorded disc on a Sony 510, Sony JB920, Sony MZ-E40 or another
Sharp 702.

I'm not aware of any units that will not play mono discs. From memory,
the mono playing is part of the MD standard going back to the begining.
