Re the non-functioning Aiwa AM-F5:
I tried running it on the charger the day it died--no response--no LED, no
battery indicator, nothing. Usually run it from the charger when I use it at
home or work, plugged into good old AC.
Cigarette lighter and DC adapter still work--tried my portable CD

I'm glad to hear that your unit isn't dead. :-)
Most adapters that plug into the cigarette lighter have a fuse in them.
Have you checked it to make sure it's OK?
