Just for the record, I've been recording with XMMS under Linux (RH7.1) pretty much flawlessly for the last couple of days. I also have Win98 on my laptop and tried it last night, and it worked surprisingly poorly with WinAmp. Seemed like it was really struggling to keep up, and the MP3s were glitching a lot. Under Linux it works fine, but you've gotta watch out for APM kicking in, which will cause disruptions.
