I have been unable to find anything on the web about converting an
existing wiki from Mindtouch to Mediawiki. The reverse is very well
documented and supported, but not many people seem to be moving away
from Mindtouch.

Lucene itself is capable of supporting Japanese but you might need a special
analyzer and/or tokenizer, see

(That's for Lucene in general, don't know much about Lucene with regard to

But I did rebuild the index (./build) after changing (language,en) to
(language,ja). It still doesn't work. There is no problem with searching any
English keywords.
You mentioned "add (language,ja)". Did you mean to ADD (language,ja) besides
(language,en)?

There is a rather limited support, but it does work (e.g. see
ja.wikipedia.org). Don't forget to rebuild your index (./build) after
you add (language,ja).
