i dont know what you need exactly, but maybe you can take a look a this
extension.
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Loops
the #fornumargs lets you iterate over the arguments you want of the
template.

I'm wondering if there is some way to find the number of arguments
passed to a template. I have goggled it but didn't found anything.
Some extension or a magic keyword?
