my brief reading 1.4.25 sounds like items can get shuffled inside of a slab
class and free up pages and those get put back into the free pool of pages
for reallocation. And a lot more. Nice.

documentation are based on a fork.
The stats are pretty confusing, I apologize. Your problem is likely slab
calcification. You need to look at 'stats slabs' and not strictly 'stats
items'.
