Can't say for sure on a 201, but i did that many times on 124s.
So for once in my life I finally diagnosed something rather than
just throwing parts at it.

Try tapping on the starter with a board, or something, while holding the
switch to the crank position. I've had starters (actually the "Bendix")

I don't recall but I presume you've verified voltage at the starter

(Sorry for the delay, it's been a busy week!)
I just tried the headlight test, and turning the key makes no visible
difference in brightness. (Releasing the key makes it get a little brighter,
which I believe is the glow plugs turning off from leaving START.)
Given that, it seems like a g
When you say boots you mean "bellows" thats what Rusty's site has anyway.
Theres also "dust sleeve" which is a weird looking split ring of some sort.

OK, I take it back. was looking at the sad pix on fleabay and not the flicker.
10 footer. Nice interior and low miles. still more than it looks like it
should cost. 83 SL sold here for $8500. That car was near perfect and headed
to canada.

I don't think it looks like a 50 footer. The pictures look pretty good.
Hard to tell without seeing it in person.
The interior looks better than mine and I think my car is pretty good
for its age.

If I recall correctly, Gump was a 115 so I assume my seats would be like
those that were in Gump. I note on the ad that they say 72-73 models
will need to have some stuffing added to the edges of the pad to fill in
the seat cover.
I am mainly wondering what the dimensions are. The seats must be
depends on the vintage. Older seats are closer to the ones Gump had. I think
the newer 107 have more side pad to make it bucket seat instead of flat bench
sort.

I *think* I did the wheel bearings last year, maybe 15k ago. I finally got a

I'd wondered about the alignment issue. Hate to pull one and have it pass and
still need an alignment.
Billsteins for the 201 are $103 each which I don't consider all that expensive.
Considering the rear shocks were spent its probably not a real stretch to think
the struts need replacing.

You may also have a flat lifer, although that doesn't sound really bad.
Mine sounded like it had broken rods when I first started it after
replacing the head gasket and cleaning the head off. Cleared up in a
few minutes.
Also check to make sure the pre-chamber is sealed properly on the
