I have both a clicker and a beam type. The clicker gets used mostly on lug
nuts, the beam type for engine work. I've tested them against each other and
didn't see much difference. My beam wrench came from Sears, the clicker came
from a yard sale for like $5, I don't think it's got a brand on it

Voltage and amps to drive the glow plugs are 2 very different things.
You can still get voltage/continuity across a bad fuse or relay or wire
but they won't pass any juice. If you are seeing volts at least the
bits are passing something, but maybe not enough
These cars are supposedly bulletproof. How did you manage to find two that
don't run?

That is the sign of a loose belt. They squeal at startup due to the heavy
recharging
load replenishing the energy consumed by the starter. Usually nothing wrong
with the
alternator itself. Electrically, anyway.

My intermittent squeal ended up being the alternator. I changed belts thinking
that might be the issue. It wasn’t. The squeal goes away after about 15
seconds of driving. It is getting worse but goes away for a while if I spray
the pulley are with some lube.
Time for a rebuild I think.

Not at all. They’re just bolted together at the flanges. Take off the bolts
and it pretty much falls apart. Bearing was tight, so that wasn’t causing my
noise. However, the donut that holds the bearing in the center support was
pretty much shot, so I suspect that was the culprit, allowing the
