Hi Jim, yes I have done that on a w123, the way you are describing. The angle of removal and installation on the w124 does not lend it self to doing the replacement. Pelican parts has a illustrated step by step for the replacement. Short of removing the complete rear suspension it would be a

I had a kit I loaned out and it hasn’t returned. It was a clone of the Klann? I think, round disk plates that fit in the coil and a long screw deal that goes down the middle to engage the plate. Worked well on 126s and I think max might have done a 124 with it. Don’t know if it was branded or no
