Black oil is to be expected. It's the nature of a diesel. Perhaps Mobil 1 is not as high quality of an oil as it once was. If you do use a flush product, I would probably pull the lower pan after draining the oil to make darn sure there is no chunks of sludge that will plug the oil screen.

Where exactly is this gummy oil? On top of the head under the cam cover? If so, you should be able to rinse it out of there. Plug the oil drain holes to keep it from washing down into the oil pan, and then spray it out with Varsol. Will make a bit of a mess, but clean the engine off after you

Good Afternoon! When I was adjusting the valves last fall I was surprised to see that there seemed to be a slight build-up of sort of gummy oil around the valves. Was not terrible but I could understand why it might not want to drain out in an oil change. I have heard some conflicting advice on
