This morning I tried putting the good high pressure hose on the old
pump. With the threads cleaned, it went right on. So I swapped the
pump with the hose dangling. The low pressure hose went right in.
So I got beyond that problem, but the new PS pump is still unusable.

For situations like this, I rather like my thread files. I
don't have any metric yet, but my SAE set does a fine job.
Kinda like this:

No link. Just that everytime I try to finish hooking up the new
engine in the 80 240D, the sky turns black and it pours, even when
the sun was shining 10 min before.

Oh!
Well, then, you certainly need to bring it to

I went out to look for tap and die to clean the PS pump threads and
the hose threads. I thought it looked about the same as a spark plug
(postwar to 1980) so I was thinking it may be 14mm. Turns out it is
5/8 NF. Checked the measurements and pitch several times.
Well, some light was shed today on the uncooperative threads. I used
the die (5/8 NF - 18) on the threads of the tubing nut on the loose
hose. After a little difficulty starting the die, it went on and
cleaned right up. Took off most of the cad plating, but no big deal.
I tried the die on
I got the engines swapped in the 80 240D yesterday. I took the PS
hose fittings off at the PS pump, to lessen the mess of fluid leakage
and because they are easy to reach. When I went to hook up the high
pressure hose (the back one) to the new pump, I can't get the
threads to start.
So i
I find it easiest to start threads when the pump body
is loose too.

I got more of the fluid out of the pump, and it looks like there is a
part of a thread off the hose broken off inside the pump thread. SO
I think it is best to get a tap and die and chase the threads. At
least now I see a reason. Before i saw that it didn't made sense.
