Just a couple of long bolts and spacers. Jiggle it
around to get both bolts back in.

It is a no-brainer. You can do it from the top on a '77 240D, although you
might peek up from the bottom for one of the bolts if you decide to do so
(wheel ramps).

Well, mine's a 300TD and I don't know how different it is from yours,
but probably not too much. I had to access my alternator from both
above and below. It was a real PITA and I don't understand why MB
designed it to be such a bother for a replaceable item. I didn't lift
the car, but I did crawl u
