Coolant pump on a M103 engine.
Hendrik
who can probably do it in 3-4 hours now

You have to take off the belt tensioner, the PS pump and bracket, and
get the damned bottom rear screw out, which is a socket head and
requires a swivel and a huge amount of swearing.
Took me exactly six hours. Without PS or AC it's probably a 30 min job.

IIRC there a short pipe on top with a short piece of cooling hose that
makes it a challenge. Some mechanics simply cut the pipe to make it
easier

I am curious about this as well. The pump looks readily accessible. Why would
it take six hours to R&R?

What special tools? Yeah it will take six hours the first time but if
you got a nice metric 3/8 drive socket set it helps a lot.
Hendrik
who has BTDT

The pump works fine, but the o-ring leaks and its a six hour job to
replace it. Takes special tools, too.

Actually the water pump is a good design insofar that it feeds into the
side of the engine, inline engines tend to have a problem that the rear
of the engine gets hotter than the front, having coolant pumped into the
side helps to equalise engine heat.
I don't tension the tensioner up as much as
