I rebuilt this '76 engine to replace a '78 engine, so used the
manifolds from the '78. Looking at them, though, I think you'd need at
least the down piped from a '78-'79 in addition to the manifolds.
I can't imagine having those things in there - too tight as it is. I
did briefly toy with the idea
Wasn't there a "kit" offered by MB to move the cats out of the engine
compartment?

Have you done anything to the steering damper?
When last I checked it it was good. Didn't pull it off to

BTW, my 240D had a bracket from the AT to the exhaust - the exhaust
pipe
eventually broke right where the bracket attached
Seen this, but not on this car. Vi
I have that manifold and CAT sitting in the back yard if you want
another one -- the brace is solid on this one. the equivilent brace
(more of a gusset) on the other side is broken from the manifold, but
you're welcome to it as well. Of course, shipping will be high -
they're heavy.

Ran the front of the car up on ramps, and started whacking things with
a rubber mallet looking for the weird intermittent yet persistent
rattles and knocks that the car has had for a long time. Though I was
focusing on the steering idler arm, and had even gone so far as to
remove the nut from it
