The OM603.97 engine develops about 10% more torque than the OM603.96 engne did. The reason the '90-'91 603.97 engines had lower power was because they were rev limited to about 4200rpm (max hp is at 4400-4600 rpm). After the rev limit wa removed (alowed to go to 5100) ower came right up to 148 hp.
