Someone was asking about these guys for rebuilding components - I sent my W210
instrument cluster to them last week, it arrived on Wednesday. Just got an
email that it's on its way back to me today.

I would also point out that the video shows the original system, which used
mechanical switches on the rear lower control arms to identify tilt conditions.
These were problematic for a lot of reasons, so when they did the facelift on
the R129 in 1996 the top controller was redesigned and the ti
They do, but there is a separate assist spring mounted on them. And the tilt
is 23 degrees, not 7. 7 Seemed really low. That’s what happens when you rely
on memory…
Here is an MB video showing roll bar operation:

I’m working from memory, I think it was 7 degrees. That’s coupled with input
from the accelerometer, too.
If the roll bar deploys, you use the manual operation rocker switch to lower
and raise it again, and that should reset the system. There is a very, very
powerful set of springs inside the
I remember all the cautions in the 124 manual for convertibles, sounded like
jacking up a rear wheel with the key in the ignition might cause the roll bar
to deploy.

LOL! Unintended consequences of "gee whiz" technology that's ahead of its
time.

Yes.
The HHT (hand held tester) emulation in the DAS system has the ability to
“fool” the controller into thinking the car has been tipped beyond 7 degrees in
any plane. I’ll run the tests when I get it installed. If she hits a bump or
gets rowdy while driving it can deploy as well.
It will

Just got an email from BBA about my convertible top controller coming back to
me today.
I called to see exactly what they had done to it. They reprogrammed the EEPROM
and calibrated the roll bar circuits. All should be working 100% now.
Looking forward to getting it back early next week and h
That’s if they can repair/rebuild it.
Based on what little I’ve been able to find out about the particular fault code
it generates in the DAS (136 - replace unit) there is something inside that’s
gone off the rails that is either difficult to fix or can’t be fixed.
If I was still the primary dr

They have a somewhat checkered reputation, depending on who you ask.
Unfortunately for me, there aren’t a lot of places rebuilding or repairing top
controllers for the later R129 models, so I’m giving them a shot. Worst case
it costs me $35 for a bench fee and I g

Nope. Do they have a web page?

Just packed up the R129 top controller to drop off at the USPS this afternoon
to go to these guys for a rebuild.
Anyone here ever use them for rebuilding electrical stuff?
