Eternabond is a common RV roof repair item. If you want to buy
locally, check an RV supply store.

IIRC I bought a 20 foot roll on Amazon, needed about 12 feet for the sunroof.
I've used a few pieces for other Red Green repairs around the house.

Yes, and the Eternabond stuff is holding up like a champ. No sign at all
of this stuff aging out and letting go. However, I occasionally still get
water into the car. Not as frequently as before, but still an issue, I
suspect the rear hatch seal is the culprit.

Did you end up trying this? How did it work out? I get water in my W116
300SD, pretty sure it's from the sunroof, and guessing the drains are
rusted out but not sure.

Here's their instructions, looks like I need a minimum of one inch of tape
on each side of the joint, so I'll go with a 3" wide roll.

I was thinking about trying that, but I'm not that neat at cutting a
straight line. Lot's of other choices for lengths and widths on Amazon.

Can’t you split it down the middle to make a 20’ 2” wide piece? 2 inches should
be plenty of margin around the seam, I would think.

Regular household silicone is acidic (smells like vinegar) and will promote

With valve covers, the engine heat likely keeps them dry and the oil
bath probably prevents rust as well.

I tried silicone sealant on the sunroof on the SLC - didn't work, even with
considerable cleaning of the adjacent surfaces. If I had another sunroof to
deal with, I'd MIG it closed.
