I change my M1 0W-40 at 5000 miles, even with the correct filter, because I 
do a lot of short trips AND it makes me feel good. I buy it by the case 
when it's on sale and I buy my fleece filters in the aftermarket. Using my 
Topsider also cuts costs down to about $60 per change. 

I would call Exxon/Mobil for their opinion about long intervals if paper 
filters are being used.
