Independents or chains, any place can screw up once in awhile. i use
Angies List and Checkbook to vet service providers before I make a serious
commitment. So far, so good... With the rapid spread of sites like Angies
List and Yelp, it's getting tougher to be a consistent crook.

I'd avoid the chains unless they're independently owned. Generally
speaking, ask around among "car-guy" circles and see who they use.

I have never had problems with tires from Sams or Costco, I think they
have all been Michelins. I bought 2 sets of Michelins for the SDs in
the last coupla years, the guys there made me sign a waiver since the
tires they had to fit were not the "proper" Benz rating which I think
has more to do
