Hi all, After getting my E500, I noticed those seats were a LOT more firm and supportive than my 1987 seats, which were downright flabby by comparison. I had thought the springs were getting weak or something. Then, I found this gem in the WIS:
http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/W124/seat_booster.pdf I picked up two of those foam blocks, and installed them yesterday. WOW, what a difference! It feels like brand-new seats. The good news is, you don't have to fully disassemble the seats to insert the blocks. The bad news is, you probably do need to remove the seats from the car. This takes about 10-15 minutes if you've done it before and are familiar with the general procedure. Prying the leather or Tex out of the metal seat frame is a pain, and getting it fully re-seated (uh, pun not intended) is even more of a nuisance. But, it was definitely worth the twenty bucks for the blocks. I'm going to do the passenger seat next. These apparently were not used for the 1986-89 model years, but were phased in for 1990-up W124's, and maybe some late build 1989 models. It's easy to tell if you have them, the seats are soft & squishy up front, and you can put your fingers underneath and feel if there is a foam block there or not. Photos of the installation are below. http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_stuff/seat_boost1.jpg http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_stuff/seat_boost2.jpg http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_stuff/seat_boost3.jpg http://www.w124performance.com/images/W124_stuff/seat_boost4.jpg :-) Best regards, -- Dave M.
