Was the random overheating ever resolved?

Curt has already brought up that foreign objects blocking coolant passages or
maybe the water pump or thermostat can cause similar symptoms in a different
car makers engine. Thermostat housing eroded? Water pump housing?

Yeah sometimes you have to go back to the basics. Coolant is just not
circulating through radiator. There has to be a reason for that. I just can't
figure out what that reason is!

I just got the car inspected at my Indy mechanic. He knows these cars like the
back of his hand and noticed that the coolant wasn't circulating thru radiator-
something I've been noticing but couldn't figure out as radiator flows freely
and water pump is good as is tstat. He seems very doubtful
Blown head gasket or cracked head.

Maybe, maybe not. The cap is supposed to keep it slightly pressurized, but if
you've got a known leak, then perhaps you also have a cracked head or leaking
head gasket.
My theory on why OM603 cracked heads keep the system pressurized: exhaust gas

I will order a new o ring. I didn't have one on hand a d needed to get this car
down for inspection.
On a separate note, it was old this am- like 3 degrees. I went to add some
coolant and noticed a few bubbles of coolant emanating from the tstat housing
cover around where o ring seals. Now the c

The heat stops working because you have no flow through the heater
core, hence I suspect you have a intermittent coolant flow problem.
