FWIW, on my last evening in Hawaii, the price of RUG is now $2.81.
Immediately went up from $2.70 after the Tax Relief Law expired..
Diesel is $3.44 ..
Hope that makes everyone feel better...The good news is that
it is Beautiful in Hawaii..

Yes - but the 450 117 engine in the SLC calls for 87. Of course, it
only has 8:1 compression, and the performance to prove it.

Generally you want to go by what the owner's manual says. If the manual
says 87 octan
