I used some brake cleaner as someone mentioned, it got it pretty shiny
with some wire brushing, then I went at it with some coarse sandpaper
and that got most of the crust off so it looked pretty good.
I'm wondering if this battery leaked around the neg terminal where it
went into the case and
Try a strong solution of baking soda and water... more liquid than a paste,
on corroded battery cables and posts..
The corrosion is sulfuric acid oxide.. baking soda is a base... so they
chemically cancel each other.
Your cables will come quite clean after a soak and a little scrub.

I took out the battery from the $600E320, I had tried to charge it and
no bueno, so decided to swap in the other one. the neg terminal that
was all corroded broke off when I tried to loosen the copper clamp nut,
I have some anti-corrosive contact paste for electrical panels I'll use

clean", as in the extra from packing wheel bearings, or the not to
grungy stuff removed from a hub when repacking, or the stuff that
squirts out when greasin
I’ll give that a try. Thanks

I have found that brake cleaner is an excellent cleaner to remove acid from
a car battery.
Test: Once the battery is charged, put your DMM probe on the appropriate
terminal, and the other probe on the battery case on the plastic close to
the other terminal, and see if you get more than zero volts.
Valve body back in, pan back on, dumped in 7qt of fluid now will leave
it sit awhile till I get another jug of tranny fluid. I think I saw it
takes 11qt with TC drain.
Tried to start it to slosh fluid around, battery weak no go so put the
charger on it. POS terminal was all corroded up, the
