The bowties at MBNA decreed in the 1970s tha since MB was no longer an
engineer's car, but a "luxury" car, we can only have an automatic. The
luddite car, the 240D, was excepted until they were able to extinguish
it in 1984. Most 240Ds were auto. LIke 80% or more from 81-83.

I am doubling down on the 123. Minus an e420 and plus a 123 wagon. It does
have a cdi motor in it, for a token dose of modernity.

As I look at more and more 240Ds, I’m surprised at how few I see with sticks. I
thought sticks were more common?
